Privacy Policy
Midnight Athenaeum is a guided audiobook app for public-domain books. The app is designed to work without creating an account.
Data We Collect
The app may collect the following data to provide app features:
- Device identifier: an anonymous, app-generated device ID used for collection votes and Teacher rate limits.
- Teacher questions and reading context: when you ask the Teacher a question, the app sends your question and relevant book passages to the Teacher server so it can answer.
- Product interaction data: collection votes, purchase-entitlement checks, and Teacher usage counters used to unlock features, prevent abuse, and keep service costs bounded.
- Purchase status: Apple handles payment. The app reads App Store purchase entitlements so it can unlock purchased collections.
The app also stores listening progress, bookmarks, notes, Teacher history, and offline downloads locally on your device.
Data We Do Not Collect
We do not sell personal data. We do not use third-party advertising trackers. We do not use data for cross-app tracking.
Service Providers
Midnight Athenaeum uses service providers to operate app features:
- Apple App Store: processes in-app purchases and restore-purchase requests.
- Supabase: hosts the Teacher proxy, collection vote counts, and rate-limit counters.
- Anthropic: processes Teacher questions through the server-side Teacher proxy.
- Cloudflare R2: hosts public audiobook audio files and artwork.
Retention
Local app data remains on your device until you delete it in the app or remove the app. Server-side vote and Teacher rate-limit records are kept only as needed to operate app functionality and abuse prevention.
Deletion And Support
Because the app does not require accounts, most user data is stored locally and can be removed by deleting app data or uninstalling the app. For help with privacy or support requests, contact support@midnightathenaeum.com.
Children
Midnight Athenaeum is not directed to children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy as app features change. The latest version should be posted with the app's support materials.
